Women’s Basketball: Amid blizzards, an avalanche for the ‘Roos
Saturday’s 47-33 home loss to Indianapolis is another disappointment for a struggling team. The ’Roos now stand 9-19 for the season and 5-10 in the Summit League. Saturday’s loss follows a 63-38 blowout loss to Western Illinois at Swinney Recreation Center on Thursday. Home court advantage has not panned out for the ’Roos. In January away games, the team edged out Western Illinois for a narrow 51-50 victory while losing 47-46 to Indianapolis. Eilise O’Connor led the team on Saturday with 10 points. Hailey Houser led with six rebounds. O’Connor also led Thursday’s game with 17 points. Emile Blakesley led with eight rebounds. Volleyball team 2-2 in Summit League following weekend games
After a 3-0 home loss to Fort Wayne on Sunday, the volleyball team stands 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the Summit League. A 3-2 win against Oakland last Friday, this season’s home opener, gave the Roos reason to be optimistic. According to Sports Information Director Nik Busch, Oakland won the last four times it faced UMKC; however, the Roos lead overall in the two rivals’ history of competition. The team endured a two-and-a-half-hour practice on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Team still on track for Summit League Championship despite two straight losses
The women’s basketball team’s Summit League record took a hit this week as it fell to 5-5 for the season after defeats to the Western Illinois Leathernecks and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. The Roos (14-8, 5-5 in Summit League play) currently sit in 5th position in the standings as they aim to cement their place in the post-season championship. Oral Roberts 83- UMKC 70 In Saturday evening’s contest with the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, the Roos fell. Three players posted career-high rebounds in the game as the Roos outrebounded their opponents 53-33 in Tulsa, Okla. Junior Kim Nezianya collected her fourth double-double of the season as she led the Roos with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. The volleyball season: a retrospective
The UMKC volleyball team ended its 2011 season 12-17, 6-12 in Summit League Conference play. They closed with a saddening 3-2 loss to North Dakota State. UMKC hosts men’s soccer conference championships
The Summit League Championships were hosted at Durwood Soccer Stadium on Nov. 12-14. The weekend event, which comprised of two semi-final matches followed by a quick turnaround for the final just two days later as the Summit Leagues top four teams battled for the championship. Men’s team suffers defeat
The men’s soccer team battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the final 20 minutes of the game against Western Illinois to force overtime at Durwood Soccer Stadium on Saturday night. Volleyball team defeated by Western Illinois University
The UMKC volleyball team (6-9, 0-5) dropped a four-set match on Friday night, 3-1, to Western Illinois (9-7, 2-4) at the Swinney Recreation Center. In the match, junior Roo setter Ella Meier registered 25 assists and 12 digs, while junior Brittney Robers recorded 16 assists and 12 digs. UMKC Softball vs Western Illinois
The UMKC Softball team saw off Summit League opponents Western Illinois this weekend with a hard-fought 2-1 series win. The Roo’s improve to 20-12 (7-5 in Summit League play) while the Leathernecks fall to 10-17 (7-5 in Summit League play). In Saturday’s opening game, an Anna Sokolik double scored Kelly Fischer to give the Roo’s a last-gasp 3-2 victory at the bottom of the seventh. Junior Kaelene Curry had previously scored the two runs which had kept the game level for so long. Saturday’s second meeting contrasted greatly to the cagey affair of the first. Women’s Basketball The women took on and defeated Centenary last Monday night 98-49. Five of the kangaroos finished with points in the double digits. On Saturday the women went on to another win against Western Illinois, 58-51. Freshman Ashli Hill and Eilise O’Connor scored 12 points each. Men’s Basketball The men took another Summit League win on Saturday against Western Illinois, 55-46. The win marked the first weekend sweep in Coach Matt Brown’s career. Women’s Tennis On Friday the women took a 6-1 over Southeast Missouri State. It was the first win of the season for the women. Track On Friday and Saturday the track team travelled to Ames Iowa.
