Volleyball enjoys undefeated week in league matches
The Roos’ volleyball team won its second Summit Conference game in a week by defeating South Dakota 3-2 on Saturday night in Vermillion, S.D. Senior Emily Lucas recorded a career-high 34 kills and, with 12 digs, posted her team-leading seventh double-double of the season. Freshman Jessica Hendin totaled six kills and a career-high 17 digs, while freshman Nicole Wemhoff finished with career bests of 33 assists and 14 digs. The advantage swung back and forth as the Roos took the opening set 25-15, then dropped the next two 27-25 and 25-21.They won the fourth set 25-20, forcing a fifth set. Volleyball team 2-2 in Summit League following weekend games
After a 3-0 home loss to Fort Wayne on Sunday, the volleyball team stands 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the Summit League. A 3-2 win against Oakland last Friday, this season’s home opener, gave the Roos reason to be optimistic. According to Sports Information Director Nik Busch, Oakland won the last four times it faced UMKC; however, the Roos lead overall in the two rivals’ history of competition. The team endured a two-and-a-half-hour practice on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Volleyball newcomers shine for Roos in Runnin’ Bulldog Classic
Freshmen Jessica Hendin and Skyler Muff were named to the Runnin’ Bulldog Classic All-Tournament Team as the Kangaroos finished second after falling to Charlotte but defeating Delaware State in Saturday’s matches at the Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C. In the final match, the Roos took second place with a 3-1 win over Delaware State behind 14 kills each from Muff and Hendin. The Roos won in four sets, 25-18, 20-25, 25-12 and 25-19. They now stand 7-5. In the fourth set, the Roos led 10-9 before going on a 9-3 run, which included two aces by Emily Lucas. Delaware State closed the gap to 22-18, but two errors and kill by Morgan Voorhes ended the match. Volleyball team seeks cohesion with seven freshmen
The UMKC volleyball team is kicking off the season with a positive attitude. So far, the team has participated in a morale-boosting match against the Alumni on August 17th. The Kangaroos swept the Alumni 3-0, taking the first set 25-15. In the second set, the Alumni fought back and took the lead halfway through the set. The Kangaroos came out on top, 25-20. The Roos dominated the third set, taking a a 16-point lead, and won 25-10. With seven freshmen on the squad , the team has a lot of work ahead to assure its cohesiveness and success. “I have a good feeling about our team. The volleyball team closed out its season last week with a victory against South Dakota State University (SDSU) on Nov. 11 in Brookings, S.D, followed by and a loss against North Dakota State (NDSU) the following night in Fargo, N.D. Volleyball still searching for first Summit League win
The UMKC Volleyball team (6-13 overall, 0-9 in Summit League play) dropped three matches last week as they went in search of their first Summit League Conference victory of the season. Saturday night, the Roos traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind., where they took on the Mastodons (13-6, 6-2), falling in four sets. The Roos came out strong in the first set wasting no time taking advantage, using a 4-0 run to turn into a 10-7 UMKC lead. Another 4-0 run put in a gap the Mastodons could not overcome, as the Roos took the opening set 25-20. The Roos lost the following three sets 18-25, 23-25, and 20-25 respectively. The UMKC volleyball team (6-9, 0-5) dropped a four-set match on Friday night, 3-1, to Western Illinois (9-7, 2-4) at the Swinney Recreation Center. The Lady Roos travelled to Radford, Va. and defeated both Chicago State and the University of South Carolina Upstate last Friday, before a dramatic comeback victory against Radford on Saturday.
