Men’s Soccer Saturday night the men took a commanding win over Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). Midfield senior John Bayron Sosa scored a Hat Trick in the match, the eighth in school history. Women’s Soccer Saturday the women fell in a road match against Centenary 2-1. Sophomore Meagan Malloy netted her third goal of the season. Volleyball The women had a huge win on Saturday night against Southern Utah (SU). UMKC took the match 3-2 over the first place SU. UMKC had moments of domination throughout the match, the biggest being a 10-2 lead early in the third set. They went on to win the set 25-13. Women’s Soccer Saturday afternoon, the women fell in a 3-0 shutout against South Dakota State (SDS). UMKC freshman Taylor Bare was taken out by the SDS keeper, giving the Roos a penalty kick in the first five minutes. They didn’t capitalize on the opportunity. Volleyball The women hit the road this week with two games. On Friday they took a win in five sets against Western Illinois. The women came back after losing the first two sets. On Saturday night the Roos fell 3-2 in another five set match against Indiana University- Purdue University- Indianapolis. Senior Holly Shmidt tied her career high in assists with 28. Men’s Tennis The men competed at the RazorRacket Classic in Fayetteville last weekend. Sophomore Nino Hasandedic led UMKC on Friday by taking both singles and doubles victories. Men’s Soccer The men took a 1-0 win over Eastern Illinois last Sunday. Senior Ken Cooper took his fourth shutout of the season. Cooper placed himself at the top of the UMKC record book for both saves and minutes played. Cooper continued his shutout showcase on Saturday night with the men taking a 1-0 win against Centenary. Women’s Soccer Last Saturday afternoon the women went up against Southern Utah losing 2-0. Sophomore keeper Jami Finnell exercised her saving skills, recording 12 on in the match. Men’s Golf The squad finished 12th at the Squire Creek Invitational. Sophomore Korbin Kuehn finished with a tie for sixth place. Kuehn finished at 74, two over par, in his final 18-hole round. Men’s Soccer The men wrapped up the Southern Illinois University Soccer Classic with a 1-0 loss to Dayton on Sept. 26. Dayton scored in the 71st minute of play. Despite two good shots by the Roos in the last 20 minutes, UMKC couldn’t capitalize, giving Dayton the win. Women’s Soccer The women played a hard-fought game last Sunday with a 2-1 overtime loss against Missouri state. The women left the first half with a 1-0 lead, but in the 58th minute, Missouri evened the tally. Nine minutes into overtime, Missouri netted the ball taking the game. On Friday the women went on to a 1-0 loss against Western Illinois in their first Summit League match of the season. Volleyball The women took to the road on Friday, falling three sets to none against Oakland. Leading the Roos was junior Kelsey Knoche nabbing 14 kills and eight digs. Saturday, the women picked up their second Summit League win of the season. The Roos took the win in five sets over Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). Mens Soccer The men fell to Drake last Wednesday night 3-2. The road game saw senior John Bayron Sosa score both goals, giving the men an early lead of 2-1. But in the last 30 minutes, the men fell in defense and Drake scored a pair of goals, taking the game. On Saturday afternoon, the men went on to shut-out Columbia College here at home. The 2-0 victory for the men gave keeper Ken Cooper his third shut-out of the season. Womens Soccer The women saw a tough 5-0 loss on Friday night against Drake. Mens Soccer The UMKC men took their second shutout in a row, taking a 1-0 win over Missouri State at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field (DSSRF). Junior Diego Rojas scored UMKC’s single goal, while senior Ken Cooper nabbed three saves. On Saturday, the men finished with a 1-1 draw versus Loyola Chicago. The first half went scoreless until Junior Jimmy Simon put UMKC up one in the 58th minute. But UMKC couldn’t hold the lead when Loyola scored nine minutes later. Women’s Soccer The women dropped their game, 2-0, at Cleveland State on Friday. The women had four shots on goal and keeper Jami Finnell had 11 saves. X-Country On Friday evening the team had their first meet at the Hawkeye Invitational. Sophomore Cosmas Ayabei finished second overall in the 6K with a personal best time just short of 19 minutes. Six men finished in the top 20 for UMKC and the women had three finish in the top 15. Women’s Volleyball On Tuesday, the women dropped their game against KU, 3-0, in Lawrence. Emily Lucas and Elizabeth Beck each nailed five kills and five digs. From there, the women went on to the Colorado Volleyball Classic this weekend. Men’s Soccer The Summit League office ranked the men’s team as the favorite to win league last Monday. Cross Country Both UMKC men’s and women’s cross country teams ranked eighth in the Summit League by the cross country coaches poll on Thursday. South Dakota State was ranked to finish first on the men’s side and Southern Utah on the women’s side. Women’s Volleyball The women traveled to the Arkansas Invitational this past weekend. They fell to both Arkansas (3-1) and Stamford (3-0). but they went on to win their final match against Grambling (3-1). Men’s Soccer The men played two exhibition soccer games defeating William Jewel 3-0 on Wednesday. Senior John Bayron Sosa lead the Roos on Wednesday with a goal and an assist Sosa was also put on the list of 30 candidates for the Lowes Senior Class Award, an extremely honorable award in university athletics. Women’s Soccer The women dropped an exhibition game on Wednesday against Rockhurst University 2-1. Freshman Ashley Gannred scored the single goal for the Roos. The Roos went on to open the season on Saturday losing 3-2 to Valpraiso at Durwood. Women’s Volleyball The women have been picked to finish 3rd in the Summit League Preseason poll.
