UMKC, Kansas City and Rockhurst security officers responded to an incident at 52nd Street and Troost Avenue on Jan. 3. The suspect, identified as Chandler T. Guinn, 23, was fatally shot by a Rockhurst University security officer, the city’s first homicide of 2013. The security officer shot Guinn after he emerged from an immobilized vehicle that hit another car, pointing a gun at the officers. The suspect died later at the hospital. Police said Guinn’s vehicle was seen ramming into the back of another car on 52nd Street, and his car broke down at the 52nd and Troost Avenue intersection when he attempted to drive away. Guinn was offered medical help after the accident, but refused any assistance.
