Player Profile: Cousins, teammates, roommates and best friends unite at UMKC

Kelsey Barnwell and Lauren Dudding, both guards for the ’Roos, were separated by 500 miles. Today, they share everything in Kansas City, especially their talent on the court. Dudding has already started 10 games, and averages 3.6 points. Barnwell has yes to start, but has appeared in all 26 games and averages 3.2. Dudding and her family traveled from Lubbock, Texas to Jay, Okla. every summer to visit the Barnwells. The women’s basketball team’s Summit League record took a hit this week as it fell to 5-5 for the season after defeats to the Western Illinois Leathernecks and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. The Roos (14-8, 5-5 in Summit League play) currently sit in 5th position in the standings as they aim to cement their place in the post-season championship. The Summit League Championships were hosted at Durwood Soccer Stadium on Nov. 12-14. The weekend event, which comprised of two semi-final matches followed by a quick turnaround for the final just two days later as the Summit Leagues top four teams battled for the championship. Cross Country Roos go one-on-one against Oral Roberts

The men’s and women’s cross-country teams traveled to Tulsa last Saturday for a one-on-one showdown against Oral Roberts. The mens took four of the top five places in the 5K race, leading to a victory against the Golden Eagles. Junior Cosmas Ayabei clocked 15:19.41, his second consecutive 1st place finish this season. Junior Zach Mathias placed 2nd (15:43.28), senior Brandon Liebold placed 4th (16:20.89) and sophomore Dirk Hudson finished 5th (16:30.33).
