Construction on schedule for Bloch, Miller Nichols projects
Henry W. Bloch Executive Hall Scheduled to open in August 2013, the Henry W. Bloch Hall for Entrepreneurship and Innovation continues on schedule and on budget. The $32 million gift from Henry W. Bloch in fall 2011 covers the project’s entire cost and is the single largest gift in UMKC history. The final beam containing signatures of UMKC administrators, the builders, students and Bloch School faculty was placed on the structure at a special ceremony in October 2012, when Bloch spoke about the endowment and the goals of the facility. The structure will be located on Cherry Street next to the Student Union and adjacent to the current Bloch School building. UM Board of Curators approves $45 million in new spending
In 2012 and 2013, UMKC will see the fruition of $45 million in new construction and renovations. The $45 million in bonds is part of a $265 million debt-financing package approved by the University of Missouri Board of Curators, and will finance three separate capital improvement projects at UMKC. Miller Nichols Library wins Library of the Year UMKC’s libraries were selected by the Missouri Library Association (MLA) as the 2010 Library of the Year. MLA chose UMKC libraries as the recipient of the award after recognizing the efforts put forth by Miller Nichols Library to provide excellent services to UMKC students and the Kansas City community. Their efforts were recognized because of the robot being added to the Miller Nichols Library. Once finished, it will hold about 80 percent of the library’s collection. In doing so, more space will be allotted for multipurpose student and community use. The future reads well for Miller Nichols
A book retrieval robot is part of the new Miller Nichols Library (MNL) expansion project. The new robotic system has caused quite a buzz on campus. Parking pays
This year, with a record enrollment of 13,511 students, there have been 6,877 student parking permits sold and 1,993 faculty/staff parking permits. Faculty pays $528 per academic year for their passes as opposed to $106 per semester for students. Currently, this rate applies to all university employees from the professors, to the janitors, and T.A.s’. Miller Nichols Library welcomes robots
Robots are not just for building cars and repairing underwater oil spills anymore. Robots are the librarians of the 21st century. The Miller Nichols Library invested $20 million in a robot of its own.
