Park It: Students gain 121 new parking spaces on Volker campus
If you thought parking spaces for students have been a little less than sparse in the past, you may like this news. Parking Operations has converted 121 spaces located by the University Center and the Biological Sciences Building from Faculty/Staff and Metered spots to student permit spaces. In Parking Area 40, located by the University Center and Miller Nichols Library, a total of 78 spaces were allocated to students. In Parking Area 32 east, or Biological Sciences, students gained 43 parking spaces. Miller Nichols Library wins Library of the Year UMKC’s libraries were selected by the Missouri Library Association (MLA) as the 2010 Library of the Year. MLA chose UMKC libraries as the recipient of the award after recognizing the efforts put forth by Miller Nichols Library to provide excellent services to UMKC students and the Kansas City community. Their efforts were recognized because of the robot being added to the Miller Nichols Library. Once finished, it will hold about 80 percent of the library’s collection. In doing so, more space will be allotted for multipurpose student and community use. Robots are not just for building cars and repairing underwater oil spills anymore. Robots are the librarians of the 21st century. The Miller Nichols Library invested $20 million in a robot of its own.
