March and its warm spring days are just around the corner. The snow on the ground shouldn’t inhibit you from riding your bike. Instead, it should remind you that spring is coming soon and it is time for you to get your bike out of the dust. There are many reasons to ride your bike all around the year. Wheels turning without fossil fuels burning
What is a good way to avoid parking tickets, rush hour traffic, high gas prices and crowded parking garages while maintaining a nice physique and making it to school on time? Commute to school by bicycle. All Kansas City buses have bike racks, and all UMKC Student IDs double as a free, all-access bus pass. UMKC offers several resources on campus for bicycle commuters, including numerous bike racks. Some include air pumps to help out stressed tires. UMKC offers three locations for various biking needs: The Hub offers students, faculty and staff the opportunity to loan a bike for up to a semester. The program facility moved to the basement of Cherry Hall. Few bikes are still available to loan, but at the beginning of the semester, there were 56 bicycles available. Charity benefits from Halloween: Psi Chi partners with Children’s Place
Combine the entertainment of carving pumpkins with giving to charity, and you have the first ever pumpkin carving contest from the international psychology honor society Psi Chi, the Psychology Club and the Psychology Department. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the University playhouse. The contest will benefit The Children’s Place, located at 59th Street and Brookside Boulevard. The Children’s Place is “committed to meeting the developmental and mental health needs of the very youngest survivors of abuse, neglect and other trauma,” according to its website. “Over the summer and early in the fall semester, the club officers brainstormed ideas for selecting a charity of focus for the 2011-’12 academic year,” Faculty Advisor Kymberley Bennett said. “A vote of the club officers resulted in The Children’s Place … Read entire article »
