Henry W. Bloch Executive Hall Scheduled to open in August 2013, the Henry W. Bloch Hall for Entrepreneurship and Innovation continues on schedule and on budget. The $32 million gift from Henry W. Bloch in fall 2011 covers the project’s entire cost and is the single largest gift in UMKC history. The final beam containing signatures of UMKC administrators, the builders, students and Bloch School faculty was placed on the structure at a special ceremony in October 2012, when Bloch spoke about the endowment and the goals of the facility. Engaging the future through technology: A sneak peek inside the Henry W. Bloch Executive Hall for Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The Henry W. Bloch School of Management isn’t short of bragging rights. With esteemed faculty and nationally acclaimed accounting, entrepreneurship, nonprofit management and MBA programs, the $32 million gift that Henry W. Bloch announced last fall is icing on the cake. The single largest gift in UMKC history, Bloch’s donation is the sole funding source for one of the latest developments that will help put UMKC on the map. The 68,000-square foot Henry W. Bloch Executive Hall for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is on schedule to open by August 2013, less than two years since the planning phase. The contrast between the Executive Hall’s bold, contemporary architecture and the historic wing of the Bloch School—the 103-year-old Oakland mansion—is symbolic of the school’s forward vision. A wall of windows facing Cherry Street will optimize natural lighting while … Read entire article »

The Career Services Center here at UMKC has a main office in the Student Success Center and a satellite office in the Bloch School. Kangaroos don’t play with ‘Pigskin’

Because UMKC is classified as a Division I university by NCAA standards, many think its odd the school does not have a football program. There may be several reasons why UMKC has foregone America’s most popular college sport. One of the chief concerns in establishing a football program is the large expense.  According to Tim Gardner in USA Today, the average Division I football program spends roughly $200,000 a year on equipment and other miscellaneous items, not including scholarships for players. Football equipment is expensive, and most Division I universities provide players with practically every equipment item necessary but the kitchen sink. This often includes, but is not limited to, multiple pairs of cleats, gloves and socks, several jerseys and t-shirts, pads and helmets. And then there’s  “eye black,” the grease players … Read entire article »

Henry W. Bloch Executive Hall breaks ground

New Bloch School building to open in fall 2013 When H&R Block co-founder Henry W. Bloch started college in 1939, the University of Kansas City had yet to establish a school of business or join the UM System. In 1988, Bloch’s philanthropy filled that void, founding the present Henry W. Bloch School of Management. Last fall, a $32 million donation from Bloch set the record for the largest single donation in UMKC history, bankrolling the cost of the … Read entire article »

Bloch School finance professor completes movie mission

Stephen Pruitt began making films in 2006. Then, it was a music video of the song “Midlife.” The high-definition video camera the Pruitts purchased to make this video gave Stephen an idea – he should make an independent film. “It sort of rolled downhill from there,” Pruitt said, “despite the fact that neither my wife, Mary, nor myself (nor anyone else we hired for the cast or crew) really had any idea what we were doing.” The first … Read entire article »
