Organizations display school pride with a parade of golf carts

Delta Zeta Sorority members flaunted their colors and beautifully decorated their gold cart for the parade.

Many cities have parades with floats from different groups and companies. UMKC had such a parade for organizations on campus, just on a little bit of a smaller scale last Friday for Homecoming week.

The golf cart parade created an opportunity for student organizations to decorate golf carts to show off their image and their school spirit.

Student organizations were hard at work from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday decorating their carts, using such eclectic items as chicken wire, pom-poms, construction paper, and streamers. Some organizations prepared items to get a head start on the competition and help them get an edge. The Resource Room in the Student Union was kept open all week to allow student organizations to plan ahead and get started early on their floats.

After the organizations finished decorating the carts at noon, they were driven all around the Volker campus. They passed through the Chancellor’s Lunch, where Chancellor Leo Morton was serving free food to students, staff members and faculty alike.

The carts formed a colorful train snaking through the Quad. The carts were judged as they passed though the Quad. At the men’s soccer game, the golf carts were showcased again. At half time the carts were driven around the stadium.

Prizes were awarded to the top three decorated golf carts.

Alpha Delta Pi came in 3rd place. The Pre-Med society took 2nd place. The 1st place award, for the most well decorated cart, went to Swinney Recreation Center.
