College-aged Suicide
A Brigham Young University study estimates approximately three percent of all college students attempt suicide. The numberat UMKC, according to the Counseling Center’s Clinical Social Worker and Alcohol and Drug Prevention Program Coordinator Dr. Dale Catlin-Voigt, is closer to one percent. KU Fall Dance Concert dedicated to late professor
Performing with the University of Kansas (KU) Symphony Orchestra, KU’s University Dance Company had a large turn-out for its annual Fall Concert, Nov. 18, at the Lied Center in Lawrence, Kan. Dedicated to the late dance professor, Janet Hamburg, who passed away recently, the University Dance Company performed original works by faculty and guest artists. If you’re looking for a unique new restaurant, Marrakech Café is the place. Marrakech Café, which recently opened slightly more than a month ago, still seems an unknown gem. However, there is no reason this restaurant shouldn’t be bustling with business. Marrakech Café specializes in Moroccan cuisine. If that’s an area you’ve never delved into, have no worries. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a friendly Moroccan man who inquired if I had ever eaten Moroccan cuisine and offered to help me decide opn the menu. Police officers called for selling cupcakes illegally According to the San Francisco Chronicle, two 13-year old boys had to answer to the police when a local politician said they were selling cupcakes without a permit. Mercury Association holds résumé workshop
The Mercury Association hosted a résumé workshop, Nov. 17. The Mercury Association is a student organization “designed to provide information about educational and career opportunities in all areas of the communications industry,” according to itswebsite. Annette Haynes, manager of Career Services, was the featured speaker. Waldo Pizza was provided. Haynes gave a brief overview of how to build a résumé and what prospective employers look for. “Some people, if they see something as small as a misspelled word, will throw away a résumé,” Haynes said. “It doesn’t matter if you have a 4.0 GPA.
