Women’s Center receives federal grant

Recently the UMKC Women’s Center was given a $449,975 grant from the United States Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women.

This is the second time the grant has been renewed since it was originally awarded in October 2005.

The grant is aimed at the advancement and enhancement of victim services in cases involving violent crimes against women.

The University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) is partnering with UMKC to use the recentently awarded grant, trade ideas and create programs to prevent violence.

It will allow funding for UMKC to have a part-time violence prevention coordinator and full-time victim services adjudication advisor.

The grant will also aid in the community, police officer assistant training, the creation of a Violence Prevention and Response Task Force and instruction and efforts aimed at men to prevent violent acts toward women.
